Art & Design
Students enjoy excellent facilities with one large general purpose Art room with access to two computers with art software packages. Pupils work is also displayed in the foyer and the main corridors.
Art and Design within the curriculum.
Art and Design is part of the Arts within the revised curriculum. The subject is offered to all students from years 8 to 10 with many students opting at the end of year 10 to study at GCSE level. Art and Design is a successful and popular subject in the High School with a consistently high pass rate at GCSE level.
Programme of Study
Key Stage 3
Within the revised curriculum students in years 8 to 10 are encouraged to be active independent learners where they think creatively and acquire manipulative and perceptual skills. In addition to drawing and painting students use a wide range of media, materials techniques and tools.
Students experience working in many Art disciplines for example sculpture, textiles, printmaking, packaging design, graphic design, animation and photography.
Key stage 4
All students studying GCSE Art and Design are guided carefully and supported on an individual basis through their coursework and externally set assignment to produce a high standard of artwork for their examination.
Students are entered for CCEA GCSE Art and Design.
